To assist you during this stage, here is a list of actions to take when a fire is considered to be Under Control.
1. Announce the fire is under control (over the radio) and document the time.
2. Conduct a safety survey to ensure you are not overlooking any hazards (such as potential collapse).
3. Ensure that secondary searches are complete.
4. Ensure that all salvage responsibilities have been addressed and completed.
5. Ensure that all overhaul responsibilities have been addressed and completed.
6. Conduct a Personnel Accountability Roll-Call (PAR) to account for all personnel.
7. Call an investigation unit for cause and determination (be sure to preserve evidence).
8. Begin to demobilize the incident/scene.
9. Consider (and address) the need for decontamination.
10. Secure the building and/or area before leaving the scene.
11. Use a meter and check CO levels (especially if occupants are allowed to re-enter the structure).
12. Turn the building back over to the owner or a property representative. (last step before terminating the incident and returning back to the fire house.
