#103 Think Outside The Box
Firefighters are problem solvers. It’s been said that when two people are working on the same project, if they agree on everything, one of them is useless. If they never agree, both are useless. Arguably, one of the greatest attributes of the fire service is how a group of individuals can come together to solve major problems on a daily basis. In the photos above, firefighters solve the problem of “How can we get big water from the hydrant to the other side of the tracks without shutting down the rail line?” Notice how the Police, Fire, and Transit authority work together to come up with a solution. (I especially like seeing the shovel in the police officer’s hand).
Solving problems can be as easy as 1…2…3…
1. Bring the best minds you have together, discuss the challenge and talk about your options.
2. Choose the best option and put your plan into action.
3. Evaluate the results and revise if necessary.
